My Appalachian Trail hikes by section - Upward Call

The Long Green Tunnel (A Disclaimer)

Not surprisingly, the Appalachian Trail is often referred to as the Long Green Tunnel. This is because of the desire to keep the hiking of it a wilderness experience. As a result, there are a lot of sections that have no overlooks (or views), even from ridgelines and summits. Nevertheless, walking these sections is interesting and rewarding - I've enjoyed all of the sections I've walked. These documents record my thoughts and impressions about each section, including landmarks and features that stood out to me as I've hiked. It's not intended to replace a trail Data Book.

First, though - my favorite natural area in the eastern United States:

*** Grayson Highlands/Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in Southwest Virginia ***

My section by section Notes, by State/Region - South to North:

Note that, while all sections are listed in South to North order, my notes for each section are based on the direction in which I hiked the section. Also, the section start/end points listed reflect my start and end points for the individual hikes I made, and often vary from those in Trail Guides, especially those published by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
